If you love a great button up, but are intimidated to sew them, this workshop is for you! The great news is that once you've sewn one, you've pretty much sewn them all. Level up your skills as you sew set in sleeves, a yoke, collar, buttonholes and buttons. In class we will be making view A of Helen's Closet Gilbert top, the tie front with short sleeves. 

Please come to class with your fabric pieces cut and ready to sew before class. If you need help choosing your size or cutting out, let us know! If you want to collect your pattern in person, choose in-store pickup at check out or we can ship it to you. We'll contact you when it's ready for pick up. Patterns for this class will be available in January.

  • How to sew a collar
  • How to sew a yoke with the burrito method
  • How to a patch pocket
  • How to sew buttonholes

Materials: we will offer kits for this class in January. Once the fabrics and patterns are here, we'll notify anyone who is signed up!

If you choose to supply your own fabric, you'll need fabric based on your sizing. Please check the size chart here. Light to medium weight woven fabrics with no stretch such as linen, cotton lawn, poplin, seersucker, double gauze, shirting, silk noil, cotton/linen blends or cotton/hemp blends. You'll also need buttons, which you can supply or we will have some for you if you don't bring your own.

Materials provided:  The Helen's Closet Gilbert top sewing pattern, a sewing machine, coordinating thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, measuring tape, interfacing and an iron. 

Skills expectedThis is an intermediate class. Please be sure you have up to advanced beginner garment sewing skills and have made a few projects already.
