Have you taken our intro to alterations class and are ready to dive into your own alterations?

In this class, you'll work through at least one alteration you want to make to a garment.

Together with your instructor, you'll analyze the problem area and the fit of your garment and complete one alteration (at least) with the instructor's guidance.  Please bring 3-4 garments for the teacher to assess what would be best to use in class. Bring at least one item that needs hemming / hemming alteration and then others that could be waistband, side seam, or shoulder alteration

Bring garments that have light to moderate level fit issues.

The goal of the class is to actually do the alteration vs demonstrate alterations techniques (in our intro class, that is more for demonstration and learning hemming techniques) - this is the next level up from our intro class.

Skills you will learn:

  • How to diagnose a fit issue
  • How to properly mark a garment for alterations while it is on yourself
  • Taking in/ letting out seams
  • Altering shoulders
  • Altering a waistband
  • How to hem in various ways, depending on the alteration.

Skills Expected:
Beginner sewing skills if you've made a few beginner garments or other simple projects, and you've possibly taken our intro to alterations class (though that is not required.)

Materials needed: Bring a couple garments that have hem or fit issues. During that session, your instructor will help you determine the best garment for use in class.

Materials provided: A sewing machine, thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, measuring tape and an iron.

Max number of students for class: 6
