In this 3 part advanced beginner class Aaronica aka Needle and the Belle will teach you how to sew knit fabric and you'll make a fantastic lounge set! If you're a bit intimidated to sew stretchy fabrics but want to, and you’d love to learn to use a serger, this class is a place to start. The Karla Loungeset from swimstyle patterns, XS - 5X (52" hip) features a boatneck neckline, billowy sleeve and wide-leg flowy pants with an elastic waistband. It's perfect for cozy, cold days around the house but chic enough to wear out as well.

In the first class on Feb 18, 6-8pm you'll collect your pattern, choose your size and arronica will help you make any fitting modifications. Aaronica will also talk a bit about knits and tips for sewing them. You can begin to cut out your pattern and fabric if you have time that night or you'll do that for homework. Then class to sew the loungeset is Feb 22 & 23, 2-5pm

Skills you will learn:

  • How to pin and cut knit fabric
  • Tips for sewing stretch fabrics
  • Needles and stitches for knits
  • How to sew a garment on a serger
  • How to sew a boat neckline

Skills expected:

You've used a sewing machine before and have sewn a few simple projects and understand beginner pattern concepts. You've taken either our Essential Shirt class, easy pants, intro to garment patterns and / or have made a beginner garment before.

Materials needed: You will need to purchase your own fabric for this class. You'll need medium weight stretch fabric such as rib knit, french terry, jersey knit (medium weight), ponte knit would work well so long as it's not too heavy, bamboo fleece would be really nice as well. (Those links are all to Blackbird Fabrics in Canada, (they do ship to the US) but you could find them other places as well. They just have a good selection and very nice photos to show here.

See the size chart to determine how much yardage you need.
