If you’ve been wanting to learn how to sew (and actually make clothes you can wear!), this is the perfect place to start! Over six weeks, we’ll go from absolute basics to sewing two handmade garments—a simple pullover shirt and comfy elastic-waist pants.

We’ll kick things off by getting to know the sewing machine—what all the parts do and how to use them—then move on to must-know tools, reading patterns, tracing, marking, and cutting fabric. You will learn to sew two essential garments--a pullover shirt and elastic waist pants! *As of Sept 2025, we will be using a classic t-shirt pattern vs the style of shirts you see in these photos.*

As for materials, we make things easy by offering a materials kit which includes all the patterns and fabric you’ll need for class—just add it at checkout! This covers the fabrics you'll need for the shirt and pants and the sewing patterns that we use in class. Here is where you can add the materials for this class.

This series is perfect for total beginners who are ready to dive in and start sewing clothes. By the end, you’ll have a solid set of skills and the confidence to take on more fun sewing projects! It's okay if you've never even touched a sewing machine before and you do not need anything at home. There is no homework in this series.

Each class is approximately 3 hours.

**Please note, it's important to be able to attend each session! If you need to miss a class in the series you can book a 2 hour private lesson for $125 to make it up. We run many multi-week series and therefore have many students and are simply unable to accommodate make up sessions for free outside of the regularly scheduled class.

Here's what students have said about the series!

The  learn to sew clothes series was beyond my expectations! Leigh was a great host with a wealth of knowledge, resources, and tips. The size of the class allowed flexibility in the pace of the class making it feel custom to what was desired. I now feel comfortable with a sewing machine, reading patterns, and even understand quite a bit of sewing terminology! My garments are amazing and I’m thankful to have learned this skill in an stress-free and welcoming environment. Thanks Leigh! - Lynessa

The best part about the class was that it really helped to increase my self-confidence at the sewing machine. I have successfully applied my pattern-reading and pattern-modifying skills to multiple additional pieces since class, including pieces with zippers and elastic. The class really broadened my sewing repertoire in fabulous ways! Also, I think sewing at home can sometimes feel a little lonely and isolating, but learning to sew together with the same classmates over a period of weeks was really wonderful. -Joyanna

I took the Learn To Sew Clothes series and can’t recommend it enough! Leigh is a fabulous teacher - encouraging, informative, and fun! The pace was perfect for me as a beginner, and I felt I could immediately apply the skills I was learning on my own. I’m looking forward to taking more classes very soon! -Tom
