Bomber Jacket – Four-Week Intermediate Series

Ready to sew a real jacket? In this four-week series, you’ll make a fully lined varsity/bomber jacket with professional details like welt pockets, a rib-knit collar/cuffs/waistband, and a clean front closure using LWS Sewn Adaptive Bomber Jacket Pattern, a unisex pattern. You’ll learn the steps in the right order so you leave with a jacket you’ll actually wear and the confidence to tackle more outerwear projects next!

This pattern includes both a standard version and an adaptive option (with a shorter length, higher welt pockets, and the option to use magnets instead of snaps). You’ll be guided through jacket construction from fit and cutting through finishing, pressing, and closures, with lots of hands-on support throughout

Info about the pattern from the pattern maker.

Skills You’ll Learn

  • Sew clean, structured welt pockets
  • Use fusible interfacing for a professional finish
  • Assemble a lined jacket body with tidy construction order
  • Sew two-piece sleeves and set sleeves into an armhole
  • Work with rib-knit for collar, cuffs, and waistband
  • “Bag” a lining and turn the jacket for a polished, enclosed interior
  • Topstitch for a crisp finish
  • Install snaps or magnetic closures (optional adaptive method)

Who It’s For

Advanced beginners / intermediate sewists who have made a few garments and are ready for a next-level project. You should feel comfortable sewing with a pattern, using a machine independently, and handling basic garment construction (seams, hems, pressing).

Materials

Provided: Sewing pattern, sewing machine, sergers, coordinating thread, fabric shears, pins/clips, marking tools, measuring tape, iron, and guidance on choosing fabrics and notions.

Needed: our own fabrics + notions (yardage and options discussed in Week 1). Typical needs include:

  • Main fabric (body + optional contrast sleeves)
  • Lining fabric
  • Rib knit for collar/cuffs/waistband
  • Fusible interfacing
  • Snaps/buttons OR (optional) magnets for an adaptive closure

After you register we'll send you the pattern instructions so you know what is needed. We'll try to have a field trip to Alpha Plus Fabrics in Stone Mountain before class as well.

LWS also has a lot of great rib knit for this bomber.
