Just in time for the holidays, the perfect dress for gatherings! The Hughes dress is ideal for dressing up or down, depending on your fabric choice. In this intermediate class, your instructor, Kady, will guide you through every detail of this intermediate pattern, giving you the skills and confidence to tackle skills such as lining and a zipper

From the pattern maker:

The Hughes is the perfect everyday dress. It features Viennese seams, gathered sleeves, and a gorgeous scoop neckline. The bodice is lined and the skirt has an a-line sweep. It buttons up the front (we’ll be adjusting for a side zipper) and has an adjustable lace-up tie in the back. The tie can be cinched in or loosened depending on desired fit. The Hughes Dress is designed to be a timeless style with beautiful construction details that can be treasured for generations.

Class will be Thursdays in December from 6-9pm.

The first session will be focused on choosing your size and preparing your pattern to cut your fabrics. Then, you'll spend the following sessions sewing your dress. You may have a bit of homework in between so this class is best for those who have a sewing machine at home.

Skills you will learn:

  • Sewing princess seams
  • Attaching facings
  • Sewing a side zipper
  • Setting in sleeves
  • Attaching a skirt

Skills expected:
This is an intermediate class. Please be sure you have the equivalent amount of experience up to an intermediate level. If you've sewn a few advanced beginner garments, including tops or skirts, you should be good to go.

Materials: You'll need to purchase your own fabrics for this class. You'll need fabric yardage based on your sizing. This pattern was created for dress and shirting weight fabrics like rayon, linen, and cotton.
