Do you struggle with how hem garments or have some that don’t fit quite right? In this 3 hour class, you'll learn various hemming methods and basic alterations to up your sewing game!
We'll focus on simple alterations such as taking in/ letting out side seams, pulling up shoulders, and ways to shorten or lengthen parts of your clothes.
Please be sure to bring in a couple garments that have light to moderate level fit issues.
The goal of the class is to demonstrate and practice alteration techniques and not to complete/finish a garment and you're instructor will explain how to approach your alteration.
Skills you will learn:
- How to diagnose a fit issue
- How to properly mark a garment for alterations while it is on yourself
- Taking in/ letting out seams
- Altering shoulders (of sleeveless garments only)
- How to hem a few different ways
Skills Expected:
Beginner sewing skills if you've made a few beginner garments or other simple projects, you're good to go.
Materials needed: Bring a couple garments that have hem or fit issues. During that session, your instructor will help you determine how you would approach modifying your garment.
Materials provided: Fabric scraps, a sewing machine, thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, measuring tape and an iron.
