This top is a simple boxy style top, designed for woven fabric with a slight nip in under the bust for a more contoured fit.It was created for our very popular Intro to Sewing - Essential Shirt class that we've taught hundreds of times in person and online.
It's best suited for woven fabrics such as linen or quilting cotton, cotton lawn, chambray but if you're a more experienced sewist you can get creative with a variety of fabrics.

I love the essential shirt because I can sew it in less than an hour and it has such nice finishing. It’s perfect as-is but also very customizable! I have painted it, cut into the pattern to color-block it, and I’ve added fun ruffle sleeves. I’ve also lengthened it to a dress and added square patch pockets. It’s a great beginner pattern but even sewing experts will be able to use it as a staple wardrobe pattern! -Katie K
