Rose Skort – Three-Part Intermediate Series

Sporty Spice girlies this one is for you! Ready to make a skirt that secretly has shorts? In this intermediate class, we’ll be making the Rose Skort by Made for Mermaids, a woven skort with built-in shorts and a faux wrap skirt front.

This is a great class if you’ve sewn a few garments and are ready to build your skills with fitted woven garments, waist facings, invisible zippers, darts, and clean finishing details. The Rose Skort is practical, cute, and wearable, perfect for anyone who loves the look of a skirt but wants the comfort and coverage of shorts.

The pattern includes three faux wrap skirt views: a simple A-line front, an angled front skirt, and a curved front skirt. The shorts have a flat front with back darts for shaping, and the waistline is finished with a facing, side invisible zipper, and elastic in the back for a comfortable fit.

Who It’s For

Intermediate sewists who already know how to use a sewing machine and have some garment sewing experience.

You should feel comfortable threading and using a sewing machine independently, sewing basic seams, following pattern instructions, and pressing as you sew. You will not be taught how to sew from scratch in this class, so please be sure you have basic sewing experience and have sewn at least a few simple projects or garments before this class.

Materials

Provided: Sewing pattern, sewing machines, sergers, coordinating thread, fabric shears, pins/clips, marking tools, measuring tape, irons, and instructor guidance throughout the series.

Needed: Your own fabric.  Please bring your fabric to the first class pre-washed. The yardage chart is attached so you know how much fabric to bring for your size and chosen view.

Suggested fabrics: woven apparel fabrics with drape, such as linen, voile, lawn, batiste, silk crepe, rayon crepe, chambray, or lightweight poly blends. Quilting cotton can also work, but it will create a more structured, vintage-inspired look.
